Harborough Race Club Photos by Neale Blackburn A huge crowd, perfect ground conditions and warm sunshine were the order of the day when the H.R.C. held their annual Point to Point meeting at Dingley near Market Harborough today. Leading rider, Tom Greenall rode two more winners to keep himself in front in the race for the top National Rider of the 2009 season. Joules Clothing of Market Harborough generously donated a £100 voucher for the best turned out lady on the day. This prize went to Mrs Gill Knight of Fleckney, Leicestershire. Six horses went to post for the opening race, The Fisher German Harborough Race Club Members Race for Novice Riders. Winner here was the hot favourite, Jewel Song, ridden by the promising youngster, Adam Wedge. Taking up the running three fences from the finish, the eleven year old had plenty in hand and easily held Camisky and Mr Naborro who finished second and third.
Hows Racesafe of Northampton kindly sponsored race two, The Restricted Race, where seven horses were declared. This produced the first win of the afternoon for the Easterby stable. Tom Greenall, having his first ride of the day on the five year old, Chibuku, had too much finishing pace for Miss Bobsleigh and favourite, Newnham Rambo, who took the minor placings.
Six went to post for The Ladies Open Race, which was kindly sponsored by Sharnford Tractors. The Albrighton Gelding, Smokey Mountain made the early running but had no answer to the finish of the Louise Allan ridden, Leatherback, who was winning for the third time this season. Granite Man was a well beaten third. Lycetts Insurance sponsored The Mens Open Race and this attracted a field of six. The useful eleven year old, Sonevafushi, already a winner of four races this season, had too much pace for this field and ran out an easy winner, giving Tom Greenall his 52nd win of the season. Bobbies Ryde and Hambaphambili took second and third spot.
Fifth race of the afternoon was The Harborough Race Club Members Race for nine year olds and over. This was sponsored by The Langton Arms and a total of ten were declared. The race produced not only the closest finish of the day but also the fastest race time. All Star, with Stuart Morris up, was the early leader, however James Owen brought the Roger Harvey trained, Highland Vasco to the front and held off the in form, Tuesdays Child, the mount of David Mansell by a neck with Lindsay taking third place.
Final race on the card was The Cristal Glass Open Maiden Race and this produced a field of ten runners. The winning horse here was the James Turcan ridden, Finbar’s Pi who beat second placed Mister Trigger by a comfortable ten lengths with Mine Hill Lane four lengths back in third. However the winner may have been a little fortunate as the favourite, Boddington Lad was a faller when leading four fences from home.
This meeting completes the Midland Area race meetings for this season.
