Staintondale
Charm Park
Easter Monday 25th April 2011
by Will Milburn

The Staintondale held their Point to Point this Easter Monday and the great effort going into the watering was not in vain as the ground was good, which attracted some useful runners.

The highlight of the day was in the Open Maiden which produced a fairytale result for Tom Mason, who was having his first ride in public aboard his own Sally Cranny. The pair were almost a fence clear at one point and the chasing field could never get close and although the jockey looked weary jumping the last, Sally Cranny powered on to win easily allowing her to return to a reception which could be heard for miles around. Tom and his mount have hunted every week with the Middleton all season and looks a very talented pointer. Cherry's Bay the hot favourite was a well beaten second.

Another highlight was in the Novice Riders race and saw Nile Moon make most of the running for Luci Sutcliffe, who was getting some recompense after departing at the first the day before. Although challenged by New Time and Impact Zone at the last, Nile Moon pulled out more on the run in. Nile Moon was purchased privately out of the Ian Hamilton yard and looks a good recruit for the Sutcliffes.

Arctic Rock got off the mark at the age of eight for retired farmer Carl Cook, who not only bred the winner, but was owning his first winner in twenty years of having horses. Patiently ridden by Andrew Glass, the pair took it up three out, Alfoisin and Lost Reference, rallied again after the last but the winner found more. Alfoisin was second for Guy Brewer with the Bob Woodhouse trained Lost Reference back in third.

The Restricted went the way of Forge Valley, ridden by leading jockey Guy Brewer. The pair made all the running, favourite Brompton Brow came to challenge two out, however several blunders late on ruined his chances. Gunner Snow showed another improved effort back in third.

Elusive Swallow showed his liking for this track by winning the Confined race partnered by Joanna Mason. The pair led three out and stayed on strongly to win, with Willywonthe coming home strongly to deny long time leader Fortunes Fool for second.

Eliza Doalott showed her class in the Mixed Open, despite there only being two runners, Guy Brewer produced his mount two out and coasted away with confidence and win by a very cheeky length with Tank Buster in second.

Novice Riders Nile Moon Miss Luci Sutcliffe 6-1
Restricted Forge Valley Guy Brewer 3-1
Mixed Open Eliza Doalott Guy Brewer 1-5FAV
Confined Elusive Swallow Miss Joanna Mason 6-1
Open Maiden Arctic Rock Andrew Glass 7-4 FAV
Conditions Maiden Sally Cranny Tom Mason 3-1
