The Bilsdale Hunt held their point-to-point at Easingwold on Sunday 10th May, on ground that was good, good to soft in places. Racing started with the S. Waind & Son Butcher Bilsdale Hunt Members, Subscribers & Farmers races and six of the eight entries went to post. The Manager and Son of Flicka shared the lead between them for most of the race until Son of Flicka came to grief three from home. Code Blue who had been on their tails was urged into the lead by Chris Dawson after the final bend and hung on by seven lengths from The Manager and Jack Jordan, with Ruby Redman finishing in third on only her second run and first of the season, for Sam Welton.

The second race was the first of two Maiden's, for Four, Five, Six and Seven Year Olds, sponsored by Prodrive Shopfitting Ltd. The Millar Man made the running and Bugler's Dream was going very well until he was also caught out by the third last fence on the final circuit. Turning for home the race looked as though it would go the way of Fairy Mix and Elliot Brookbanks, however Knightofthegarter came with a very late and fast surge up the run in to take this by three lengths for Craig Hoggart. Trainer Stephanie Easterby had already made an entry for this five year old in the point-to-point bumper at Aintree on Friday night and this is likely to be his next target. "It was a pleasing run and one that may end his season on a high," said the trainer.

The third race was part of the national Dodson & Horrell Series for novice riders. Again it was all change up the final hill. For A Finish and Harry Kinder looked to have the measure of their rivals turning for home but the challenge came from Nosecond Chance under Becky Mason to win by two lengths from Oaklands Robbie and Alice Petch with For A Finish completing in third. "I was really pleased to have a winner!" Enthused the winning rider who has been off since a fall at Brocklesby and her work as a physiotherapist at Hull Royal Infirmary involves some weekend work. "He jumped really well, nearly too well at times but I thought he would run well as he has been a bit of a pain to ride at home recently," she added. As a result of this win, the pair have qualified for the PPORA Club Members Novice Riders Series Final at Tabley next Sunday, for which they hold an entry.

The Cleveland Security Ltd Mixed Open race was run in the fastest time of the day and the winner came from Lucky Cody who was fourth on his point-to-point debut at this course in April and was given a very determined ride by Richard Tierney to get back up on the line, having been headed and won by two lengths. "He's been on the deck a couple of times so his first race was more of a confidence boost but we knew his fitness would improve as well and I was really pleased with his run," said trainer Nicky Tinkler. "He stays all day and his long term target will be the Grimthorpe. He seems to have come out of the race ok so we'll probably go to Hexham in a fortnight's time," he added. Sportingfriendship was second for William Easterby with Pevensey finishing in third under Cath Walton.

The Yorkshire Area Point-to-Point Club Members Conditions Race was sponsored by ACB Services Ltd and riders who were not classified as novice riders carried a 5lb penalty. The winner was Aldreth, the second of the day for Stephanie Easterby but ridden by William Easterby. The pair won by six lengths from Pertemps Networks and Craig Hoggart and Rosie Du Berlais and Elliot Brookbanks was a further 10 lengths back in third. "William held him up for the first circuit and he made a couple of mistakes but the jockey reported that the faster they went the better he jumped. He stayed on well and had plenty left in the tank at the finish," said Stephanie Easterby.

The Studford Luxury Lodges Restricted race saw John Dawson emulate his brother Chris' earlier win and took this on Seeyouincourt. Anddante put up a good challenge for Jack Teal to finish four lengths further back in second and Arboretum was third for Chris Dawson.

The final race was an Open Maiden, sponsored by Armstrong Richardson and it was no surprise to see Up To Scratch take this for Sarah Dent and Elliot Brookbanks. Second on his last start here Up To Scratch won easily enough by six lengths from Mr Conductor and Emma Todd in second and Lady Nefertiti put up a good show under Will Milburn to finish third. "He's had a frustrating season one way or another but it was a case of third time lucky," said Sarah Dent. We'll keep him for next year as he's the last one in our White Lion line," she added.
