Review
of the 2004 Yorkshire Season
|
The Yorkshire season ended at Heslaker Farm on 22 May
2004 with some great racing and close calls that kept the judges busy. The
whole season has been great to watch with both horses and jockeys
giving their all. Of the many highlights, the few that I’ve picked out are… Texas Ranger Mr Pendleberry Emperor‘s Son Imps Way The most improved horse was Hadeqa, who
struck up a winning partnership with Serena Brotherton. On their first
outing together at Hornby Castle, they finished a close second to Texas
Ranger at odds of 50/1. The 8-year-old son of Hadeer never looked back and
will be a force to be reckoned with again next year. Of the others, I liked the look of…
In Yorkshire, we saw the “wonder horse”, Balisteros,
twice in his farewell season and I believe that we may have also seen
the last of Yorkshire‘s own star, Silver Groom. The
grey 14-year-old looked only half his normal self, after making a
winning start at Witton Castle. Another 14-year-old, Erzadjan, ran his final
race at Heslaker and went into retirement with a fourth place, putting
in his best work at the end like he always did when others were giving in. At this point I would like to say a big thank you to the
secretaries of all the meetings who have helped me in putting together
the web site and keeping the racing fans updated, and also to the many
people who give their time up to help build our fine courses that we have in
Yorkshire. I’m no Richard Hall, but I hope that I’ve put across what a great season we have had... see you all in 2005! |
